Think of how a snatchblock works, your cable goes out, goes through the pulley and is attached back to your vehicle with the pulley attached to the "load" this effectively doubles the amount of cable you have to winch in to move your load a given distance, therefore your pulling force is doubled.

Tandem axle trailer - brakes on 1 axle vs brakes on both? - Pirate 4x4
I'm buying parts to rebuild the brakes on my new to me car hauler and I'm wondering if adding brakes on the second axle would be worth the extra money to buy the second set of loaded backing plates and new hubs for that axle. Is there any reason not to put brakes on both? I'm already rewiring...

I've got a TH475 sitting in the gay-rage and albeit the cases are identical, there are other physical features that seperate it. For one the tranny pan is a deep finned aluminum cast design that also doubles as the lower bellhousing bolts. Mine also has an external filter.
